Our History
New Life Biblical Seminary is the theological wing of the International New Life Ministries (INLM) founded in 1987 in Houston, USA. In 1993 INLM felt the need for a theological institute to train young people for ministry in the Indian sub-continent, and thus established the New Life Biblical Seminary (then known as New Life Bible Centre). The seminary was the long cherished dream of Late Pastor C. K. Daniel, one of the pioneers of Pentecostal Movement in the southernmost part of Kerala and a former president of Indian Pentecostal Church of God in India.
His vision found its realization through Rev. Dr. Johnson Daniel (s/o Pastor C. K. Daniel) and family who were instrumental by God to establish this theological institution. The foundation stone of the Centre was laid by Pastor. E. C. George and later the seminary was officially inaugurated on the 13th of March, 1993, as the New life Bible Centre. The class for the first batch was commenced on the 25th of April, 1993. It was only a humble beginning with 16 students and 5 teachers. Initially we had Diploma in Theology (Dip. Th.) only. The second batch began in March 1994 and the first batch graduated in December 1994. The year 1995 witnessed many miracles in the progress of the Centre. The Hebron I. P. C. Church of Houston was gracious enough to support the Centre financially. Later the Centre got accredited to the I. P. C. Council. The New Life Bible Centre became the New Life Biblical Seminary in 2001.
Resolved to give qualitative and accredited education, NLBS embarked on affiliating with the well-known accrediting agency Asia Theological Association (ATA). In 1998 after the evaluation of our B. Th. programme it was accredited by ATA. M.Div. programme, which began in 2002 was accredited by ATA in 2003. In 2005 we started our M. Div. Distance Education programme and this was accredited by ATA in the following year. M.Th. programme began in 2008 and was accredited by ATA in the subsequent year. Our first batch of M.Th. graduated in the year 2009.
During these years the seminary undertook major construction projects of building library, auditorium, dormitory, faculty quarters and so on. By God’s grace these projects were completed in due time with the help and prayers of our well-wishers.
Periodic increases in the number of Faculty and staff have been the major feature of the growth of the seminary. Also the library development has been the major impetus in the overall expansion of the seminary. Over the years students around the country and abroad from various cultural-linguistic backgrounds have studied in the seminary. Till now over 900 graduates serve God and humanity around the globe. Today the seminary has the strength of more than 140 students and 40 staff. NLBS has two annexe institutions in New Delhi and near Chandigarh catering to the need of training native missionaries. Puthujeevan (New Life) is the official college year book began in 1994. It gives a glimpse of the life, ministry of NLBS over the years.
Year 2011 is an epochal event in the annals of NLBS when it began a theological journal: New Life Theological Journal. It is a platform to interact and interpret issues facing the world from a Christian ethical-theological perspective. Today the seminary stands on the cross road of a new era and greater heights.
Over the years INLM, the parent body of NLBS have been involved in various philanthropic and social activities including educational help to needy students, mass marriages of girls from economically poor background and financial aid for construction of shelters for the needy.
